About Charles
Charles was described as “human sunshine.” He was gratitude made visible--a man of such loving depth and thoughtful grace that he comforted without effort, transformed without proclamation, and illuminated the path forward simply by walking it with integrity.

A Life of Teaching and Service.
Professionally, Charles M. Hosch was a brilliant attorney with more than 40 years of experience in complex business transactions, data privacy, and technology law. But those who knew him understood that at his core, Charles was a teacher. Whether in the classroom at SMU Dedman School of Law, where he mentored students for more than three decades, or in quiet conversations with colleagues and clients, Charles approached every interaction as an opportunity to listen, learn, and guide others toward wisdom and compassion. He had a favorite way of deepening a connection with someone: "You know what the nicest question you can ask someone is?" he would say. "Would you please tell me your life story?" And then he would listen—truly listen—with complete attention and genuine interest. He possessed a rare gift for truly hearing others—not just their words, but the hopes and concerns beneath them.

A Devoted Family Man.
Charles measured success not by cases and deals closed or problems solved, but by the richness of his family life. His love story with Beth began in college and deepened across 42 years of marriage, partnership, and shared purpose. As a father, he gave Julia Hosch-Singh and Mary Catherine "Cat" Hosch the greatest gift: his genuine presence and unconditional belief in their potential. Colleagues would marvel at how, even under the most demanding circumstances, Charles would answer calls from one of his "girls" with an immediate, cheerful "Is everything alright?"—making it abundantly clear where his true priorities lay. With characteristic humor and deep affection, he would explain, in his thick Southern accent, that he was the way he was because he lived in a "house full of girls and cats." He embraced Aditya "Adi" Singh as a son, not an in-law, and stepped into grandfatherhood with the joy of someone discovering life anew. To his brother Heyward and his extended family, Charles was both anchor and champion—reliable, caring, and ever-present.

A Character Defined by Values.
To Charles, the Scout Law was never mere nostalgia from boyhood—it was a living commitment. He remained trustworthy in his counsel, loyal to his clients and colleagues, helpful to every student who sought guidance, friendly in even the most contentious negotiations, courteous without exception, kind in judgment, cheerful in adversity, brave in standing for what is right, and reverent in his faith. This commitment extended through his service on Eagle Scout Boards of Review and his Sunday school teaching at University Park United Methodist Church.
From Harvard Law School through 35 years at Strasburger & Price, LLP—where his partnership with Kate Morris flourished—to co-founding Hosch & Morris, PLLC with her in 2019, Charles built his career on dual foundations: technical mastery and authentic human connection. What distinguished his practice was not expertise alone but the genuine care woven through every relationship. Many clients remained with him for more than 35 years and across two generations—a testament to his reliability, integrity, and the trust he inspired. Within his firm, Charles showed the same fierce devotion to his colleagues. He called even the youngest associates "partner," believing that title reflects not hierarchy but shared purpose. His office door was always open to anyone with a question, and he treated his partners not as colleagues but as family.

His Legacy Shines Brightly.
Those who worked with Charles or sat in his classroom discovered that his brilliance is inseparable from his humanity. He was a genuinely kind and deeply sincere person who approached every challenge and every individual with wisdom and generosity. He excelled as an attorney and teacher, but what made him exceptional defies simple explanation. Charles radiated gratitude—not as a practice or discipline, but as an expression of his essential nature. He was the most loving and thoughtful person, a man of unshakeable integrity and profound emotional depth, whose presence brought comfort, whose attention brought dignity, and whose care transformed lives in ways both subtle and forever lasting.
In Charles's worldview, optimism was an active choice and a moral commitment. He chose to see the world as the best version of it, and in doing so, helped make it better. His dedication to mentoring the next generation, his methodical yet deeply people-focused approach to problem-solving, and his remarkable capacity to find good in every situation continue to guide and inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy shines not only because of what he accomplished but because of who he was.
